Operational Technology Corporate Engineer

Job Description

• Design and Implementation of OT Networks:

  • Develop and implement robust network architectures for industrial control systems (ICS), SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition), and other OT systems.

  • Design networks that support real-time communication and high availability, ensuring minimal downtime for critical operations.

  • Implement segmentation and zoning strategies to separate IT and OT networks for improved security and functionality.

• Network Security:

  • Ensure the security of OT networks from cyber threats, which can have catastrophic impacts on physical systems.

  • Implement firewalls, Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS), Intrusion Prevention Systems (IPS), and other security solutions.

  • Conduct vulnerability assessments and regular patching of OT systems to ensure compliance with security standards.

  • Implement network access control (NAC) to limit unauthorized access to critical devices and systems.

• Monitoring and Troubleshooting:

  • Monitor network performance and availability using specialized OT monitoring tools.

  • Perform regular testing and diagnostics to ensure network integrity and operational efficiency.

  • Troubleshoot network issues related to latency, downtime, and device connectivity in real-time environments.

  • Work closely with control system engineers to resolve issues that impact both IT and OT environments.

• Integration of IT and OT Networks:

  • Coordinate and integrate OT networks with traditional IT networks in a secure and efficient manner.

  • Address unique challenges of OT environments, such as legacy systems, low bandwidth, or latency-sensitive applications, while connecting them to IT systems.

  • Ensure proper data flow between OT devices and IT systems for analytics, monitoring, and reporting.

• Compliance and Standards:

  • Ensure that the OT network complies with industry-specific regulations and standards such as NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology), IEC 62443, and NERC CIP (North American Electric Reliability Corporation Critical Infrastructure Protection).

  • Adhere to best practices for securing critical infrastructure and operational networks.

• Collaboration with Cross-Functional Teams:

  • Collaborate with industrial control engineers, IT teams, and operations staff to ensure network systems are integrated effectively.

  • Partner with external vendors and service providers for the implementation and support of OT networks. Ensure alignment on project goals, timelines, and technical requirements to achieve seamless integration and operation.

• Network Lifecycle Management:

  • Perform routine updates, upgrades, and maintenance on OT networking hardware (such as routers, switches, and gateways) and software.

  • Document network configurations, processes, and changes to ensure smooth transitions and continuity of operations.

  • Manage network assets and ensure scalability and flexibility as OT systems expand.

• Support for Industrial Protocols:

  • Work with specialized industrial communication protocols such as Modbus, DNP3, PROFINET, Ethernet/IP, OPC-UA and MQTT.

  • Ensure proper configuration and interoperability of industrial devices and control systems over the network.

• Disaster Recovery and Redundancy:

  • Design and implement disaster recovery strategies to ensure continuous operations in case of network failures.

  • Implement redundant communication paths, backup systems, and failover mechanisms to maintain high availability in critical environments.

• Incident Response and Crisis Management:

  • Lead or assist in incident response during cybersecurity or network-related incidents.

  • Provide rapid restoration of services in case of disruptions or security breaches affecting OT networks.

Minimum Qualifications 

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering or equivalent hands-on experience.

• 5+ years of experience working in Industrial Operation Technology

• Demonstrated ability to resolve complex production issues.

• Ability to work with all levels of the organization, both technical and non-technical.

• Ability to facilitate interactive design and functional specification sessions.

• Fluency in English is essential for this role. Additionally, knowledge of other languages such as Spanish and French is also valued.

• Willing to travel. Frequents travel to Magotteaux production plants.
