Country Manager (Relocation to Vietnam + Mandarin Fluency Required)

Our client is a well-respected freight forwarding company that has been in business for over a decade, providing multimodal solutions to more than 40+ countries.

They are seeking a seasoned and conscientious Country Manager to lead their staff and operations in Vietnam, based out of Ho Chi Minh City. This role is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the freight forwarding business, including P&L management, team leadership, operational performance, and business development. 

The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in freight forwarding (not simply general logistics or 3PL), deep knowledge of local and regional markets, and is FLUENT in Mandarin to collaborate effectively with key partners and stakeholders.

Please note that this role is also open to those that are willing to relocate to Vietnam.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead and manage overall country operations, including sales, customer service, operations, and finance.
  • Drive the strategic growth of the business by identifying new opportunities, expanding market share, and enhancing service offerings.
  • Ensure full compliance with local and international freight forwarding regulations and standards.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, carriers, customs, and other key stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with regional and global teams to align strategies and reporting frameworks.
  • Monitor P&L performance, develop annual budgets, and ensure financial goals are met.
  • Lead and mentor a cross-functional team to deliver consistent, high-quality service.
  • Oversee the development of SOPs and ensure operational efficiency across air, sea, and land freight services.
  • Represent the company in industry events, negotiations, and government interactions when needed.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • At least 10+ years of progressive experience in the freight forwarding industry, with a minimum of 3 years in a senior management or leadership role. Candidates with very, very strong performance in a mixed BDM/operations management position can also be considered.
  • Fluent in Mandarin, with zero exceptions. This will be tested - do not apply if you are uncertain. Fluency in English and/or Vietnamese will also be a plus. 
  • Proven track record in managing operations and driving commercial growth in Vietnam or similar Southeast Asian markets.
  • Deep understanding of international trade, customs clearance, and multimodal transport.
  • Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, Business Administration, or a related field is nice to have. Master's degree is a plus.
